When Others Recognize You Better Than You Do

A MOMENT TO CONSIDER

An old Tongji University video circulates among friends, who recognize a young Kefei before he recognizes himself. Clothes, a watch, and a teaching scene open a conversation about the person they remember and the identity he barely noticed forming.

Their recollections let him reinterpret an ordinary responsibility as an early expression of courage. The essay considers how other people preserve parts of our story that our own memory has lost.

A reading note on the published post. The complete piece, photographs, and conversation are on Koffeemocha.
